There's
the river, the oh-so-colourful landscapes, the canyons reminding
of "The river with no return" Marylin Monroe movie, but
have you ever heard of such natural strongholds as the "Causse
Noir" and the "Causse Méjean" ? Here we're
back to the original chaos, to the early days when earth was young
- just have a look at the Montpellier-le-Vieux area to make sure
!
The "Aven Armand" pit, stalagmites
kingdom Beautiful landscapes sure are spattered
all around. What about investigating the underground country-side
? The "Aven Armand" pit is the treat ! Le Rozier blacksmith
Louis Armand first discovered it back in 1897. The "Aven Armand"
still stands to these days as one of the true wonders of the under-world.
Happily enough, the old-times rope-ladders have gone
out of style. To go have a dive in the depths, ride the cable-car,
which will take you 50 meters down in but a few minutes ! Notre-Dame-de-Paris
could easily stand in this giant of a cavern. "Aven Armand"
is also a romantic spot, where about 400 stalagtites unsuccesfully
keep on trying to join their stalagmite mates...
Millau viaduct or the river Tarn bridge
The highest viaduct in the world proudly stands south of Millau,
caught between "Causse Rouge" and "Larzac Causse".
Over three years were needed to achieve this spectacular masterpiece,
and its seven pillars- though not wisdom ones. The viaduct raises
up to 270 meters at the table, 343 meters high on top, and is 2460
meters long.
